Prep
- Dry and Season Pat whole wings completely dry with paper towels. Combine salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Rub over all surfaces. For best results: place on wire rack and refrigerate uncovered 1 hour to overnight dry skin crisps faster and holds glaze better.

- Make Balsamic Bat Glaze Combine balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce in small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to simmer. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 8 to 10 minutes until glaze thickens and coats a spoon. Reduce by one-third. Remove from heat. Stir in chili paste and food coloring if using.

Bake
- Arrange in Bat Shape Preheat oven to 425°F. Position rack in upper third. Place whole wings flat on wire rack spread each wing to full span. Use toothpick to gently prop joint open for wider bat silhouette.

- First Bake Plain Bake at 425°F for 25 minutes without glaze. Skin must crisp before glaze is applied sugars in glaze burn if applied too early. Wings should be golden and skin firm at 25 minutes. Internal temperature should reach 165°F per USDA safe minimum cooking temperatures.

- Glaze and Finish Remove from oven. Brush generously with balsamic bat glaze all surfaces. Return to oven for 10 minutes until glaze caramelizes and darkens dramatically. Watch at 8 minutes glaze can go from perfect to burnt quickly. For extra dark coat: brush second coat at 8 minutes, bake 2 more minutes.

Present
- Rest and Serve Rest 5 minutes. Arrange whole wings spread-out flat on black serving platter bat wing silhouettes are most dramatic when wings are spread rather than piled. Serve immediately with ranch or blue cheese dip.

Notes
No food coloring?
Balsamic reduction alone produces a very dark brown-black color that photographs dramatically. The flavor is significantly better than food coloring versions. Food coloring adds jet-black visual impact but transfers to fingers and mouths.
Kid friendly?
Skip chili paste. Increase honey to 3 tbsp. Skip food coloring if younger kids are nervous about the dark color. Serve with honey mustard.
Air fryer method?
Air fry whole wings at 400°F for 15 minutes. Brush with glaze. Air fry 5 more minutes. Works best in large basket air fryers bat shape is harder to achieve in smaller baskets.
Make ahead?
Glaze keeps 1 week refrigerated. Wings can be dry-brined overnight. Bake plain, refrigerate, glaze and finish 10 minutes before party. Fresh-glazed wings always better than fully reheated.
Storage?
Fridge 3 days. Reheat in air fryer 375°F for 5 minutes and brush with fresh glaze for best result.
